El Cazador is a series written by Chuck Dixon and drawn by Steve Epting published by Crossgen Comics in 2004 and remained unfinished after six episodes (after the bankruptcy of its publisher). *

From 1998 to 2004, the publisher Crossgen Comics was the place where artists more or less confirmed tried to launch a range of sets forming a shared universe. The preferred genres were science fiction and fantasy, and that is as ambitious productions Sigil, Crux, Negation, Ruse , with authors and artists as Chuck Dixon, Mark Waid, Brandon Peterson, Butch Guice, Steve Epting orders.
Adventure Crossgen nearing its end when El Cazador was initiated, a comic-book that broke with the canons of the house since it was a comics history, adventure, pirates, meet codes most classic of the genre.
Today, reading this collection of six episodes of the series, the experience is very frustrating because the story is incomplete and the book closes on the promise of thrilling adventures.
Chuck Dixon has clearly documented and inspired famous film of the story, we think especially The flibustière Antilles (1951) by Jacques Tourneur with Jean Peters and Louis Jourdan as El Cazador has the same specificity have a Leading Role as Women, a female character very wet, fine strategist. We guess there is a connection between his past and that of Spain Redhand Harry, and one can imagine that these two adversaries on the seas could have known then a romance.
The six chapters are made rich in twists and varying scenes quickly, some are real pieces of startling bravery in the atmosphere as the mutiny or the chase through the strait leading to Ginger Island, with a real thriller . But the quality of the script only makes more frustrating is that it suddenly stops after 140 pages.

Steve Epting's drawings are also lavish at the time, the artist had already accumulated a lot of experience, including a memorable run on Avengers in the 90s Marvel and Aquaman at DC.
After illustrating more than two dozen episodes of Crux, written by Mark Waid, for Crossgen he signed his first masterpiece with El Cazador , where it clogs itself and collaborates with one of his favorite colorists, Frank of Armata .
The result is a work of art: the care with which Epting draws the costumes, scenery, details of the boats, cutting action scenes and the quieter beaches, is fabulous. We believe it really, and its rival episodes of classic comics Franco-Belgian pirates as Red Beard ( of Charlier and Hubinon ) or islands in Jérémie (Gillon of ).

A series rediscover - hopefully, at a time when few Marvel titles Crossgen stimulus (as Ruse and Sigil), we read in one day (true) end ...
